"HEIDEE"

The sailing vessel "HEIDEE" is a 1970 Morgan sloop. She is 28' with a 9 1/2' beam.

Performance

She will make an honest 6.5 knots under sail and 4.5 under power. The great thing about her is her light wind performance: (an adventure in itself)

Wind; 4-6 knots boat speed 3-4 knots (slow adventure) Wind;10 knots boat speed 5-6 knots( fair adventure) and anytime the wind reaches 12-15 she is at hull speed (6.5 knots & a great adventure) She is equipped with an Atomic 4 (adventure?) engine rated at 30hp (ha ha) and when necessary we would use it at about 1800 rpm and she would make 4 knots( slow adventure). In our 4 year sojourn to the Caribbean we only put about 325 hrs on the engine. We wanted the adventure of sailing and though not purists we are adventurers and the adventure of sailing is the greatest thrill I have yet found.

When we purchased Heidee she was named destiny and had only been used 3 times even though she was almost 20 yrs old. The previous owner had purchased her from Charlie Morgan to take trips to the Bahamas but the first time they went out of site of land his wife panicked and they had to return. He had kept her clean for all 15+ years and when we bought her She was just as she had been built. We added everything that is necessary to cruise ie.galley head stronger standing rigging mast steps and all electronics. We also cut into her inner lining and created a massive ammount of storage for food.

I lived on her and made all the necessary changes at night after I finished working at Boat US in Ft Lauderdale. I was able to purchase all the small stuff at wholesale and find deals on the larger stuff. What we could not get this way we purchased at flea markets etc.

Once this was all completed it was off to the boatyard for what needed done there.
